The Upper Room

Our team is committed to developing personalized success strategies and offering a wide range of resources to help renew the life trajectory of those experiencing homelessness. At Talbot House, we plant seeds of hope with everyone who comes through our doors by meeting their basic needs. Our programs for the homeless in our community empower the individual to learn self-sufficiency. Gifts of soft furnishings were donated by people in England and books arrived by post or were left by soldiers to fill the shelves of the library.
Residential Programs
Open the doors to the past and enter a living museum. Tap the tablet and be guided individually or with your family through the history of the First World War using moving stories, amusing anecdotes and original artefacts from a tumultuous period. STEP (“Savings & Transition Economic Program”) provides those experiencing homelessness who have an income with a place to stay. The goal of this program is to empower clients to save the necessary funds to get back on their feet and once again secure their own housing.
Our donation ramp is open Monday, wednesday, and saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Kentucky Avenue.

Renewal program

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served free of charge every day of the year. Dietary requirements can be accommodated and bagged “to go” lunches are also available upon request. We recommend asking our friends at LVIM or VISTE if they have a use for such donations.

This program is geared toward people who do not have long-term issues with homelessness, substance abuse, or mental health issues and typically lasts three to six months. Clients receive budget counseling, financial classes, employment training, and assistance, as well as guidance in achieving short-term goals. We believe every life matters, and we offer hope and help, one person at a time. Beyond that, we are blessed to be able to facilitate long-term life renewal by showing them a way forward through assistance from the Good Samaritan Free Clinic, Solutions employment program, and multiple affordable housing options.
